Living Life Benefit
If you are facing a terminal illness with a prognosis of less than 24 months to live, you may be eligible to request an advance on your Life Insurance payment.
Eligibility Requirements
- A written medical report from your physician confirming the terminal illness
- Your beneficiary must not be irrevocable.
- You acknowledge that the Living Life benefit amount, plus interest, will reduce the final Life Insurance amount paid to your beneficiary
Benefit Amount
You can apply to receive up to 50% of your Life Insurance while living, up to a maximum of $25,000.
For members with the $10,000 Local 666 Retiree Life benefit, the maximum advance is $5,000.
Approval Process
Your request is subject to approval from both your benefits administrator (UA Local 67 Benefits) and your group Life Insurance carrier (Canada Life). Please contact Canada Life or UA Local 67 Benefits for more information.
Group Life Conversion
If your group Life Insurance benefits are terminated and you are under the age of 65, you have the option to convert your insurance to an individual policy.
Why Convert Your UA Local 67 Benefits Plan Life Insurance?
By converting your Life Insurance within 31 days of your coverage ending, you can avoid the need to submit medical evidence of good health. This may be beneficial if:
- You wish to purchase individual life insurance but have been declined in the past.
- You have a medical condition or terminal illness that may affect your insurability.

Conversion Package
If your Life Insurance in the UA Local 67 Benefits Plan ends and you’re under age 65, you have the opportunity to continue your insurance by purchasing and paying the premiums for an individual policy (that is, “converting your coverage”) through Canada Life. If you meet Canada Life’s 31-day deadline, they’ll convert your coverage to your own policy with no medical underwriting required.
UA Local 67 Benefits will mail you a conversion package if you’re under 65 when your group Life Insurance ends.
Application Process
To qualify for conversion (without medical underwriting), you must be under age 65, and Canada Life must receive your application and the first premium payment within 31 days of your UA Local 67 Life Insurance ending.
For more information or to initiate a conversion application, please contact UA Local 67 Benefits or Canada Life.
