Plan Information Accuracy and Interpretation

This website and your Benefits and Pension Booklets describe your UA Local 67 Benefits Plans in simple terms, along with information on union and government-sponsored benefits that you could be eligible for. These are not legal documents, and they provide an overview but do not cover every detail.

We have made every effort to ensure the information presented is accurate. However, should there be any differences between the information contained in this site and the legal plan documents (including the Benefits Booklet, the Pension Booklet, insurance policies and group contracts), the plan documents will apply.

Also keep in mind that all plan rates, benefit maximums, provincial benefits, and other details presented are subject to change.

Your Privacy

It is impossible to administer your group benefits without using personal information. That said, the Trustees are committed to protecting your privacy and have strict safeguards in place to protect your information from unauthorized access or use. UA Local 67 Benefits uses your personal information to administer your benefits, which extends to but is not limited to insurance providers, information technology (IT) or software providers, auditors and legal. At no time is your personal information ever shared with marketing companies or disclosed to the Board of Trustees or the Union office. In addition, you have the right to see the information on file for you and to update or correct it as necessary.

UA Local 67 Benefits is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), a Canadian law relating to data privacy. It governs how private sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information in the course of commercial business. In addition, the Act contains various provisions to facilitate the use of electronic documents.

Organizations covered by PIPEDA must obtain an individual’s consent when they collect, use or disclose that individual’s personal information. People have the right to access their personal information held by an organization. They also have the right to challenge its accuracy. Personal information can only be used for the purposes for which it was collected. If an organization is going to use it for another purpose, they must obtain consent again. Individuals should also be assured that their information will be protected by appropriate safeguards.

Under PIPEDA, personal information includes any factual or subjective information, recorded or not, about an identifiable individual. This includes information in any form, such as:

  • age, name, ID numbers, income, ethnic origin, or blood type;
  • opinions, evaluations, comments, social status, or disciplinary actions; and
  • employee files, credit records, loan records, medical records, existence of a dispute between a consumer and a merchant, intentions (for example, to acquire goods or services, or change jobs).
